Nickolas Papanikolaou

Nickolas Papanikolaou, PhD, MSc is a Principal Investigator in Oncologic Imaging at CF and leader of the Computational Clinical Imaging Group. Dr. Nikolaos Papanikolaou studied biomedical engineering at the Technological Institute of Athens while he obtained his Ph.D. from the Medical School of University of Crete on the topic of “Technical Development and Clinical Evaluation of Novel Imaging Techniques of the Gastrointestinal Tract with MRI”.

He has been working for Philips Medical Systems from 1991 to 1998, while he joined the MR Clinical Science department in Best, The Netherlands. He has been a research associate of the department of Radiology, University Hospital of Heraklion from 1999 to 2009, and he has been an MR Applications Consultant for Siemens Healthcare from 2002 till 2009. During the last 25 years he has been invited in several countries to support Philips and Siemens MRI scanners including: Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Cyprus, England, Turkey, Lithuania and Israel.

He has published 69 scientific papers in peer reviewed international journals, 17 chapters in international books, and edited 2 books. He has delivered more than 80 lectures in international congresses and educational courses. He served as a member of editorial board of European Radiology in the section of experimental radiology, while he was a member of abdominal subcommittee of ECR from 2007-2009. He has been awarded with several scientific prizes and he has received 2 research scholarships from ECR. Finally, he is honorary member of the Spanish Society of Gastrointestinal Radiology (SEDIA). The main focus of his research is development and validation of imaging biomarkers on cancer applications. He recently initiated the development of a Radiomics Network comprising luminary clinical sites in  Europe and Latin America to advance research in that area of Radiomics. "
